NEET PG Counselling Reveals Low Score Admissions, Sparks Concerns

Recent NEET PG counselling rounds have revealed an anomaly: postgraduate seats in government medical colleges being allotted to candidates with exceptionally low scores.

    • An MS Orthopaedics seat in Rohtak was granted to a candidate scoring only 4 out of 800.
    • The Union Health Ministry drastically lowered qualifying thresholds for the 2025-26 session.
    • Cut-offs for the general category decreased from 276 to 103; SC/ST/OBC dropped to -40 from 235.

The Supreme Court has requested an explanation from the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) regarding the cut-off reduction. Doctors’ associations have voiced concerns about the precedent set for medical education standards.
