Energy Security at Risk: India Plans Evacuation of Vessels from Persian Gulf
Amidst escalating tensions, India is coordinating the evacuation of 22 energy-critical ships from the Persian Gulf region, deemed a high-risk maritime zone. The move follows the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to regional conflict.
Key facts:
- 22 vessels: Identified for evacuation, including 13 Indian-flagged.
- Critical Cargo: Ships carry approximately 215,000 MT of LNG, 415,000 MT of LPG, and 1,750,000 MT of crude oil.
- Coordination: Ministries and agencies are collaborating for naval escorts and safe passage.
- Seafarers: 215 seafarers have already been evacuated.
- Additional Vessels: Three Indian-flagged container vessels will also be evacuated.
India is in contact with Iranian authorities to arrange safe passage for merchant vessels.
