Parli Thermal Power Station Ordered to Halt Operations of Two Units
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar – The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has instructed Maharashtra state authorities to immediately cease operations of Units 6 and 8 at the Parli Thermal Power Station (PTPS) in Beed district due to severe environmental non-compliance.
Key findings prompting the order:
- Excessive Emissions: PM emissions from Units 6 and 8 significantly exceeded permissible limits (87-91 mg/Nm3 against a limit of 50 mg/Nm3)
- Illegal Operations: The units continued operating despite prior closure directives from CPCB in May 2025, and expired Consent to Operate, issued in December 2024.
- Environmental Hazards: Untreated sewage and ash directly disposed of in natural drains, and unsafe conditions were found at the ash storage site.
PTPS officials claim they have not yet received the letter but will respond upon receipt.
