West Bengal Faces Scrutiny as Election Officer Shortfall Looms

Kolkata – The Election Commission (EC) is facing a potential setback in West Bengal’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. A significant number of state government officers, assigned as micro-observers, have failed to report by the Supreme Court’s February 10 deadline.

  • Only 6,000 of the 8,505 designated officers have reported.
  • The EC has yet to receive detailed information about reporting officers.
  • Chief Minister Banerjee previously alleged the EC engaged officers from other states.

The EC requires these officers to undergo training before they can assist in the SIR work. This shortfall raises concerns about the timely and effective completion of the revision process, prompting further scrutiny from the EC.
