DRDO Shortlists Bidders for Advanced Combat Aircraft
New Delhi – The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has shortlisted three contenders to design and develop prototypes for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a fifth-generation stealth fighter.
- Shortlisted firms: TATA Advanced Systems Ltd, a consortium of Larsen & Toubro and Bharat Electronics Ltd, and a Bharat Forge-BEML Ltd-Data Patterns consortium.
- Project Aim: To develop a homegrown, single-seat, twin-engine jet featuring advanced stealth technology and internal weapons bays.
- Modernization: The AMCA project signifies India’s commitment to modernizing its Air Force and joining a select group of nations with fifth-generation fighter capabilities.
- Rafale deal: Separately, the Defence Acquisition Council cleared the purchase of 114 Rafale jets from France, with 90 to be manufactured in India.
