Odisha Paddy Procurement Faces Scrutiny Amid Allegations of Systemic Failure
Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has criticized the Odisha government over alleged failures in Kharif paddy procurement, citing “complete systemic failure” and broken election promises. In a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Patnaik outlined several key issues:
- “Katni Chhatni”: Allegations of illegal deductions from farmers’ produce.
- Input Subsidy Cap: Concerns over the 150-quintal limit on input subsidies.
- Payment Delays: Failure to adhere to the promised 48-hour Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) timeline.
Patnaik urged immediate action to address these grievances, warning of potential farmer protests. Government officials attribute the issues to the state’s agricultural expansion and storage capacity limitations.
