New Delhi – The Ministry of Panchayati Raj marked the first anniversary of ‘Sashakt Panchayat – Netri Abhiyan’ with a national conference focusing on elected women representatives from rural bodies.
- ‘Nirbhay Raho’ Initiative: Launched to bolster women’s safety in panchayats under the Nirbhaya Fund.
- Capacity Building: Aimed at training 1.45 million women representatives on legal rights and leadership.
- Sensitization: Targeting 1.75 million male representatives on gender equality.
- Infrastructure: Includes strategic CCTV camera installations across rural areas.
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh highlighted the pivotal role of women in grassroots democracy, noting their 46% representation in Panchayati Raj institutions. Financial support for local bodies has increased significantly, with ₹4,35,236 crore recommended for 2026-31 by the 16th Finance Commission.
