NHRC Chief Calls for Paris Principles Overhaul Amid Global Conflicts

New Delhi – National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairperson Justice V Ramasubramanian advocated for a complete overhaul of the Paris Principles during a session at the Raisina Dialogue on Saturday.

• Paris Principles: Standards for National Human Rights Institutions established by the UN in 1993.
• “Cosmetic Outlook”: Ramasubramanian argued the Principles only address the structure of human rights institutions.
• Global Conflicts: Amid ongoing global unrest, he stressed the need for international standards and collaboration to effectively protect human rights.
• Truth & Diplomacy: Lamented the constraints on world leaders speaking truthfully due to diplomatic considerations.
