Karnataka to Ban Social Media for Under-16s
Bangalore: Karnataka will ban social media access for children under 16, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced alongside the 2026-27 budget. The move aims to mitigate the adverse effects of increased mobile usage on children.

- Social Media Ban: Under-16s restricted from social media to protect mental health and safety.
- AI Learning: ₹5 crore allocated for an AI-based tutoring system for Classes 8-12.
- Higher Education: ₹500 crore investment to develop University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering like IITs, ₹100 crore allocated this year.
- Teacher Recruitment: 15,000 primary and high school teachers to be recruited.
