BJP Rebel Elected Mayor in Bhiwandi-Nizampur Upset
BHIWANDI: Narayan Chaudhary, a rebel corporator from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was elected Mayor of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) on Friday.
- Chaudhary secured victory with support from the Congress-led Bhiwandi Secular Front (BSF).
- Congress candidate Tariq Momin was elected Deputy Mayor.
- The BJP plans to challenge the election and seek disqualification for Chaudhary and five other corporators who cross-voted.
- Congress emerged as the single largest party with 30 seats in the 90-member BNMC.
- Chaudhary pledged to prioritize the city’s development.
