Kerala Sees Dip in Road Accident Fatalities Despite Overall Increase in Accidents
Kochi – Kerala witnessed a reduction in road accident deaths in 2025, despite a rise in the total number of accidents, according to the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD).
Key findings from the MVD data include:
- Fatalities: 3,733 deaths were recorded in 2025, a decrease of 142 compared to 2024.
- Injuries: 56,922 people were injured in accidents in 2025, an increase from previous years.
- Accidents: 49,889 accidents occurred in 2025, marking an increase from 48,834 in 2024.
- Motorcycle Fatalities: Deaths involving motorcycles also declined, with 1,345 fatalities in 2025, down from 1,450 in 2024.
The MVD attributes the decrease in fatalities to ongoing road safety initiatives.
